Have you seen the latest in voiceover surveys and statistics?
Surveys in general are a great tool to help understand any type of business better. They can help give a perspective on what 'success' looks like, whether there are methods that can be used to move careers forward, and what you need to do to achieve that forward momentum.
NAVA's "State of Voiceover" survey came out in the first quarter of the year and I enjoy looking at their findings and statistics alongside another survey voiceover survey published by a popular P2P site.

The State of Voiceover
The State of Voiceover 2021 Survey was originally created by the Voice Actors of NYC. This was the first time I had ever seen any official in-depth voiceover stats that were available to the public. It was a real eye-opener to see the vast array of results. The State of Voiceover 2025 Voiceover Survey is this year's survey by some of the original 2021 surveyors, in collaboration with the National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA). Over a thousand responses were collected in total, with questions and answers on a wide variety of topics including casting, representation, unions, and AI. This survey has some interesting details about the voiceover industry and will no doubt become a powerful tool for NAVA.
The Other Voiceover Survey
Then there is 'Voices.com' Voice and Audio Trends Report. VDC has a history of surveys, one of which was previously called the 'State of Voiceover.' Their current survey is called Voice and Audio Trends Report. Voices.com clients (and maybe some talent) are queried on various topics such as popular voiceover genres, branding, and AI.
Comparing and drawing conclusions
One of the areas that the VDC survey overlapped with the NAVA survey was, ‘Most type of VO work’ ? As an established video game and animation voice, I'm clearly interested in these areas. NAVA’s survey showed video games were ranked #5, followed closely by animation in the #6 spot. There are 23 genre categories in the NAVA survey compared with the 4 categories in the VDC one. Commercials were still number one according to the NAVA surveyors. Brand Marketing was the largest number on the VDC survey, with animation as the 2nd most popular, followed by internet ads and television.
Another area worth noting in the NAVA survey was that 13% of the voice actors surveyed have made an AI voice, while, uncannily, 14% of those surveyed said they have lost work to AI voices.
So there you have it - two surveys to use as a gauge for your own individual voiceover careers. Voiceover statistics are a welcome sight in any shape or form. It's definitely worth sitting down with a cup of tea for voice actors and other creatives involved in the industry.
